It’s been FOREVER since I’ve blogged, so I’m starting off on a new foot for my birthday month! Being one step closer to thirty has made me reprioritize and figure out how to better plan out my life. Which meant being more dedicated to my blog!
So to kick off this new week, we’re back to a #MaskMonday featuring the YesTo Ultra Hydrating Mud Mask from Ulta Beauty (buy it here). This mask is great for a few reasons: (1) It’s one of 3 in the package! (2) It’s hydrating and (3) It’s already made so no work required!
It’s easy to do this mask, which is at the top of the 3-pack.
Wash your face to get off any make up or residual oils
Apply the mask, which you can squeeze out of the package (it can get messy)
Wait 10 minutes
Wash off with warm water
A few highlights of this mask:
It’s super light
Your face feels super soft when you take it off
It doesn’t feel hard or constricting when it dries
A few negatives:
Because it’s a ‘cocoa’ type, it kinda smells like suntan lotion
It makes a super mess trying to get out of the package.
Overall, this is a great mask to try if you’re a beginner or if you want to feel softer skin. Not sure what the long-term benefit is, but I had dry skin which does feel a bit more supple now. I would give it an 8.0/10.
In keeping with New Years goals, I am starting a new segment here on the blog called MaskMonday. I will be doing some video trials of some of the top masks around to help keep my skin supple and hydrated during these winter months.
This is keeping with my January goal of being more consistent here on the blog. Remember, small goals rather than lofty resolutions are the way to go!
What Mask? YES TO Detoxifying Charcoal Paper Mask Where to Get It? Ulta Beauty sells this mask. Buy it online here How Long? The mask takes about a minute to put on and has to stay on for 10 minutes to feel the full effect. Because it’s paper, you just take it out of the package and go!
This mask was really easy to use and if you’re pressed for time, a good option. I’m a big fan of clay masks and this was the first paper mask I’ve ever used, so I’m not sure if I didn’t like it because it’s different, or if it’s the actual mask. I liked how easy it was to apply and how you can feel it tingling (the directions say that means it works). However, I didn’t love how when you take the mask off, your face feels sticky. I’m not sure if that’s the materials in it, or just the residue. About an hour later, my face still feels a a little sticky, even though the liquid has all dried off.
Overall Rating? 5.5-6/10
Next week we’re going to do a live trial of a L’Oreal clay mask.
Do you have any of your favorite masks you want me to try? Leave me a comment!
Hi y’all. I am a huge fan of makeup, and my favorite store is Ulta Beauty. I love that I can find everything I need in one location. It truly is a one-stop shop! Plus, I get my hair done at their salon as well. The woman who does my hair actually does a better job than the place I was going to in Downtown Boston! And my bestie is an insanely good at doing makeup, she definitely could make it a side-hustle!
Ever since I was in middle school, my skin has been pretty wonky. Even as an adult one hormone shift and my face totally breaks out. So here are some of my favorite products to help keep my face clear and my eyes sparkling!
Like I said, I typically break out, but for the longest time I was still using creamy foundations. My life totally changed when I found tinted moisturizer. This is light enough to not cause my skin to freak out, but still gives me a good color to start with. When going out on the town, pairing it with a good primer helps my face stay hydrated and in place all night. My favorites are:
Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer – This stuff is GOLD. It is my favorite that I’ve found so far. The clay helps keep the color, but it’s still very light on your face. I wear the Light so I can blend on top of it. It also has SPF for summer.
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better – This is another great light moisturizer. What I love about it is that it has a pump, so you’re sure to get the perfect amount. I trade off between this and my Tarte.
I’ll admit it, I’m a powder girl. I like how it gives a finished look, and can cover some of my skin marks (thank you teenage acne). I always go for a mineral powder, because I’ve found it doesn’t make my skin oily. My favorite is:
Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Powder – I have been wearing this for YEARS and it is my go-to for powder. I’ve tried almost all the others and this one takes the cake. It’s light on your face, but still provides coverage. I also love that it has built in SPF 15. I usually use Light in the fall/winter/spring but change to Blush Medium when I start to get my summer tan.
Blush is my best friend. I think its the best way to brighten up your look for everyday. I am completely hopeless at contouring so this is the closest I can get. My two favorite multi-color blushes are:
Too Faced Sweetheart Perfect Flush Blush – I wear this in Peach Beach and it is perfect for every day. It’s got great beige and peachy tones to match my subtle work makeup without being too over the top. When I want a bit more pizazz, I do use the Candy Glow as well.
NYX Ombre Blush – This is another great gradient blush to give you some toning on top of your powder. And it’s a really affordable option for those of you two don’t want to go straight to Ulta’s Prestige Brands. I love the Nude to Me for everyday use.
This is my favorite part of my makeup because you can do almost ANYTHING. Make your eyes glam, do a perfect smoky, sparkle them up, the possibilities are endless. I have two go-to pallets and my favorite mascara to tie it all together. They are:
Urban Decay Naked HEAT – Yes, I bought the Heat pallet as soon as it came out, and I won’t lie, I’m in LOVE. I love to do nudes and browns for work and this pallet has the perfect shades of brown with reds and a bit of sparkle that I use it almost every day.
Urban Decay Naked Smoky – Unfortunately you can’t get this pallet anymore, which is a shame because it is my other favorite. I love the silver tones and that I can wear it with blues and blacks that I wear to work. However, I found this E.L.F Smoky Eyeshadow Pallet and it’s almost a dead ringer for the UD one. Plus, it’s a great deal!
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Ok, if you can get over the name, I guarantee you this mascara will change your world. I was the queen of the typical drug store brands until I was talked into buy this, and now I won’t go back. It hugs your lashes perfectly, and the brush doesn’t cause clumping. Plus, now it comes in Waterproof!
BONUS: Eyeliners – I don’t typically wear eyeliner, especially to work. But when I go out, I alternate with powders and gel pencils. For powder, I typically just use one of my black eyeshadows and an angled brush with a little water. It allows the powder to fall and give a nice smoky look. For gel pencils, I love UD’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil. It’s easy to use and makes great lines.
I’m very easy when it comes to lips. I actually rarely wear lip gloss or lipstick, only when it’s a special occasion. I’m actually obsessed with tinted lip balms, since they don’t dry out your lips when you wear it. All I wore in Nashville were:
Berts Bees Tinted Lip Balm – If you love Bert’s Bees like I do, this will become your new staple. It’s light like their typical balm, but does a great job providing color. I use the Red Dahlia almost every day.
Chapstick Total Hydration Moisture + Tint – This is the one product you can’t buy at Ulta, but it should be at your local drug store. I love that it packs a little more color than the Bert’s Bees, but unfortunately it is heavier on your lips. I’m more apt to use this going out than daily. I love the Merlot color for a deeper red.
